The Los Angeles Dodgers take on the Arizona Diamondbacks. Our MLB odds series has our Dodgers Diamondbacks prediction and pick. Find out how to watch Dodgers Diamondbacks.

The Los Angeles Dodgers and Arizona Diamondbacks are playing a contentious series this week. The Dodgers struck first on Monday, but then the Diamondbacks responded on Tuesday in a game they badly needed to win. Arizona entered Tuesday 13-17 and sinking in the standings. They needed to maintain contact with the Dodgers and not allow the gap in the standings to widen any more than it already has. In a bizarre turn of events, a swarm of bees gathered near the screen behind home plate. The weather was clear and and mild in Phoenix, with no rain in sight, but a delay of nearly two hours created an 8:35 p.m. start time, the latest for any game in Chase Field history. The Diamondbacks, down 2-1 in the eighth inning, tied the game on a Gabriel Moreno RBI single with two outs. The Dodgers scored one run in the top of the 10th inning for a 3-2 lead, but with the Diamondbacks getting their own ghost runner in the bottom of the 10th, Christian Walker mashed a home run down the left field line for a 4-3 win. Now these teams will go at it in the rubber game of this series on Wednesday.

Why The Dodgers Could Cover The Spread

The Dodgers were terrible at the plate on Tuesday, possibly thrown out of balance and rhythm by the bizarre two-hour bee swarm delay in Phoenix. The first two runs the Dodgers scored in their 4-3 loss were on a wild pitch and a balk. The third run they scored was in the 10th inning, when they got the ghost runner at second base to start the inning. Dodger hitters drove in just one run in 10 innings, and that one run was a ghost runner. What made the Dodger hitting performance even worse was that Arizona ace Jordan Montgomery was scratched from his scheduled start precisely because of the two-hour delay. The Dodgers could not hit a series of Arizona relievers.

You might be sitting here thinking all of this is a reason to pick the D-Backs, not the Dodgers. The point is that the Dodgers' hitters are way too good to have consecutive bad games. Tuesday feels like an outlier more than an indicator. The Dodgers did, after all, score eight runs on Monday against Arizona after a bad game against the Toronto Blue Jays on Sunday. Don't bet on the Dodgers to play two terrible offensive games in a row. It won't happen often.

Why The Diamondbacks Could Cover The Spread

The Diamondbacks get Jordan Montgomery on the mound for this game after the delay-created scratch in the previous game on Tuesday. Montgomery has established himself as one of baseball's best pitchers. He helped the Texas Rangers win the World Series. He is not a pitcher you want to bet against.

Final Dodgers-Diamondbacks Prediction & Pick

This is definitely a stay-away game. The Jordan Montgomery scratch and reschedule is a wild and unexpected variable. The teams dealt with a weird two-hour delay last night. The Dodger hitters are inconsistent. The Arizona bullpen was awful on Monday and brilliant on Tuesday. This game is insanely hard to predict. Just pass on this one.

Final Dodgers-Diamondbacks Prediction & Pick: Dodgers -1.5
