Why The Mets Will Cover The Spread/Win

New York needs Megill to have a good start in this one. He has made just one start this season, and it was pretty good. Megill went just four innings, but he struck out four and allowed just one earned run on three hits against a pretty good Milwaukee Brewers team. The Mets started him off in the minors this season, and he was virtually unhittable in Triple-A. If Megill can continue to pitch well in this game, the Mets will be able to win this game.

Cleveland has a very high chase rate at 30 percent, and they have a very high swing rate in general. Megill needs to take advantage of this. In his first start against the Brewers he was able to rack up a 32.4 percent whiff rate. With Cleveland's high swing rate, the Guardians could have some trouble with Megill. If Megill can get the Guardians to whiff as he did the Brewers, the Mets are going to win this game.

Why The Guardians Will Cover The Spread/Win

Lively is having a pretty good season up to this point. He has a 3.06 ERA, 1.27 WHIP, and a 2-2 record in six starts. Lively has not allowed more than three earned runs in any of his starts this season, so he is keeping the Guardians in every game he pitches. If Lively can have a good game against the Mets, the Guardians will be able to win, but it will be up to Lively.

The Mets are batting under .240 this season, and they have one of the worst slugging percentages in the MLB. New York does not hit the ball well, and when they do, it is usually without power. Lively is a little bit of a flyball pitcher, so it is a good thing the Mets do not hit for a lot of power. If Lively keeps New York in the park, and makes sure they have weak contact, they Guardians are going to win this game.

Final Mets-Guardians Prediction & Pick

This should be a good game. The Mets are not playing good baseball right now, though. They are fourth in the NL East division, and it does not look good moving forward. The Guardians, on the other hand, are leading the Al Central. For that reason, I am going to take the Guardians to win this game straight up. I think Megill has the ability to keep the Mets in the game, but I like Lively to have a great start at home and lead the Guardians to a victory.
