The Orioles make the trip to Los Angeles to face the Angels. These two teams are headed in opposite directions with the Orioles playing great, while the Angels are slumping. Our MLB odds series has our Orioles-Angels prediction, odds, and pick for Tuesday.

The Orioles are red hot entering this game with a 14-7 record and six wins in seven games. They are a top-five offense behind the plate so far this season and their pitching has been ranked in the top half of the league up to this point too. The Orioles have so much young talent behind the plate with Jordan Westburg, Gunnar Henderson, Adley Rutschman, Anthony Santander, and Ryan Mountcastle making up the bulk of it. They improved their pitching this past offseason by adding Corbin Burnes to go with Grayson Rodriguez, but it still needs work. The Orioles were the best team in the AL last season and they somehow improved this season even more.

The Angels are struggling this season with a 9-13 record and they enter this series on a four-game losing streak. Losing Shohei Ohtani seems to have sent the Angels spiraling this season. They are ranked near the bottom of the MLB in both their pitching and offense behind the plate. Taylor Ward, Logan O'Hoppe, Mike Trout, and Anthony Rendon stand out despite the offense's struggles this season. On the mound, Tyler Anderson and Reid Detmers have played well for a struggling unit as well. The Angels have a massive challenge in this game against the Orioles.

Why The Orioles Will Cover The Spread/Win

The Orioles are going with Grayson Rodriguez on the mound and he has a 3-0 record, a 2.63 ERA, and a 1.17 WHIP. Through 24 innings, he has allowed seven runs on 20 hits with three home runs on eight walks and 27 strikeouts. The Orioles are 4-0 in all of his appearances up to this point in the season. In his last start, he pitched six innings and allowed two runs on four hits with three walks and six strikeouts. Last season, Rodriguez was decent as a rookie with a 7-4 record, a 4.35 ERA, and a 1.34 WHIP. He has been very good in his second season and is only getting better. He also gets a very good matchup against the Angels and their offense.

The Orioles' offense has been one of the best in the MLB. They are 4th in team batting average at .265 after finishing last season with a .259 batting average which was also top five in the MLB. The offense is led by Jordan Westburg, Gunnar Henderson, and Adley Rutschman in most of the batting categories. Westburg leads the way in batting average at .333, in RBI at 18, and in OBP at .392. Henderson leads the way in home runs at six and Rutschman leads the way in total hits at 25. The Orioles offense gets a great matchup against a struggling pitching staff like the Angels.

Why The Angels Will Cover The Spread/Win

The Angels are putting Griffin Canning on the mound where he has a 0-3 record, an 8.05 ERA, and a 1.58 WHIP so far this season. Through 19 innings, he has allowed 18 runs on 25 hits with five home runs, five walks, and a total of 16 strikeouts. He has allowed at least four hits in each game he has played in. He has appeared in four games this season where the Cubs are 0-4 in those games. Last season, Canning was inconsistent with a 7-8 record, a 4.67 ERA and a 1.24 WHIP. This is a very tough matchup due to how hot the Orioles have been behind the plate.

The Angels' offense has struggled this season. They are 20th in team batting average at .237 after finishing last season with a .254 batting average. The offense is led by Logan O'Hoppe, Mike Trout, and Taylor Ward in most of the batting stats. O'Hoppe leads in batting average at .290 and in OBP at .362. Taylor Ward leads in RBI at 21 and in total hits at 26, while Mike Trout leads with eight home runs up to this point in the season. This will be a tough matchup because of how much the Orioles have improved on the mound.

Final Orioles-Angels Prediction & Pick

This game heavily favors Baltimore. Canning has struggled on the mound and the Orioles are primed to ambush him with how much offense they have. Rodriguez has been a very good pitcher too for Baltimore and should have no issues against this Angels batting lineup. The only thing in the Angels' favor is that it is a home game, but it is not going to matter that much. Expect the Orioles to win this game easily.
