The Colorado Rockies are one of the worst teams in the Majors and have lost eight of their last ten games. They travel to take on the Pittsburgh Pirates for a three-game series this weekend, who have also lost seven of their past eight games. One of these teams will have to end their losing ways this series, but this may not be the best game to tune into if you're just a casual baseball fan. Despite both teams' poor performance, we have a decent pitching matchup to break down. It is time to continue our MLB odds series with a Rockies-Pirates prediction, pick, and how-to-watch.

Austin Gomber gets the ball for the Colorado Rockies, owning a 4.50 ERA, which is the best on the staff. Gomber hasn't been able to win a game yet, with two losses and four no-decisions. He hasn't had any poor outings, with four earned runs being the most he's given up in a game. The issue for Gomber is that he won't win you many games, as he usually gets pulled early in games after giving up two to four earned runs. Hence, his four no decisions.

Jared Jones is looking for any sign of offense from his teammates when he takes the hill on Saturday. Jones has been a great pitcher for the Pirates but has won just two of his six starts. Jones has a 3.18 ERA, has gone at least five innings in each outing, and hasn't allowed more than three earned runs or six hits. However, the story for Jones is that his team has given him ten runs over his last five starts. The league's best pitchers would struggle to win when getting two runs per game from his teammates.

Why The Rockies Will Cover The Spread/Win

The Rockies have won seven games all season. Three wins came in Austin Gomber's starts, but his overall record is 0-2 with four no-decisions. As mentioned earlier, Gomber won't win the Rockies many games single-handedly, but he does a better job keeping games close than the rest of his starters, which is why almost half of their wins are in his starts.

Why The Pirates Will Cover The Spread/Win

The Pirates offense has been terrible over their last ten games, failing to score more than two runs in four straight. They are batting just .167 and averaging 1.8 runs/nine. There isn't much reason to back them in this game, but if you believe in Jared Jones enough, they could squeak out a low-scoring game.

Final Rockies-Pirates Prediction & Pick

The total has gone under in each of Jared Jones' last five starts. He has been shutting down teams, including some of the best offensive teams like the Orioles and Phillies. The prospect of facing the Rockies and their 3.5 runs/nine on the road shouldn't be an issue for Jones. The under cashed in most of Jones' starts, but the same happens in most Pirates' games. The under is 19-13 this year and has hit in nine of their past ten.

It also cashed in each of Gomber's last four starts, including in the Mexico series against the Astros when Gomber allowed just four earned runs in seven innings. The total was set at 16.5 in this game due to the altitude at the field in Mexico, but Gomber performed well, and the Rockies offense contributed a measly two runs.
