The Fall Guy 2 could be happening, according to star Ryan Gosling. David Leitch's film with Gosling and Emily Blunt recently opened atop the box office chart.

Speaking to Fast Company, Gosling revealed that the filmmakers already have a story in mind for a potential sequel. Of course, it would still be up to Universal Pictures, as they are yet to green-light a sequel.

“The sequel sort of wrote itself. We already know [the story] intimately,” Gosling revealed. “We're just hoping that people like this movie enough that we get to keep telling the story of these characters. We love them so much, and we love this world, and I feel confident that we can do it.”

He was then asked if there's a script in place. Gosling seemed confident in his answer.

“Oh yeah,” Gosling answered. “We already—I mean, we love these characters so much that we wanted to know, just for ourselves, what happens to Colt and [Emily Blunt's character] Jody after the movie ends? What's the next phase for them? And we know exactly what it is. So hopefully the audience wants to know, too.”

Ryan Gosling is fresh off of his third Oscar-nominated performance. He starred in Barbie, the biggest film of 2023. Previously, Gosling was nominated for his performances in Half Nelson and La La Land.

After gaining notoriety for appearing on The Mickey Mouse Club, Gosling became one of Hollywood's biggest stars. He would star in The Believer, The Notebook, Half Nelson, and Blue Valentine in the early portion of his career. From there, he would star in the likes of Drive, Crazy, Stupid, Love, The Big Short, The Nice Guys, Blade Runner 2049, First Man, and The Gray Man.

Will The Fall Guy 2 happen?

As Gosling pointed out, The Fall Guy 2 happening is dependent on audience interest. During its opening weekend, the film grossed $28.5 million domestically. That was enough to top the box office, but it didn't have much competition.

Challengers, the Zendaya-led Luca Guadagnino film, was in its second weekend and dropped 49.1%. That meant it grossed just over $7.6 million. The only major wide releases were a re-release of Star Wars: Episode 1 – The Phantom Menace and Tarot which grossed $8 million and $6.5 million, respectively.

Overseas, The Fall Guy has grossed an additional $36.9 million. That brings its worldwide total up to $65.4 million. The film more or less opens the summer blockbuster season. Hopefully, Leitch's film has legs and allows Universal Pictures to make a sequel.

What is it about?

The Fall Guy follows a stuntman, Colt Seavers (Gosling), who nearly gives up his career after a devastating injury. A while later, he finds himself working on his ex-girlfriend's (played by Blunt) directorial debut. This gets messy when the star of the film mysteriously disappears.

Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Winston Duke, Hannah Waddingham, Teresa Palmer, and Stephanie Hsu also starred in the film.

David Leitch directed the film based on a script from Drew Pearce. The film is a loose adaptation of the Glen A. Larson TV series of the same name from the eighties. Leitch is best known for co-directing John Wick with Chad Stahelski. He'd go on to direct Atomic Blonde, Deadpool 2, Hobbs and Shaw, and Bullet Train.
