TNT studio analyst and color commentator Charles Barkley thinks the New York Knicks can be serious a threat in the Eastern Conference, especially if their key additions remain healthy through the season.

Despite their regression during the last few seasons, Derrick Rose is still a former Most Valuable Player and Joakim Noah is a former Defensive Player of the Year — even if they aren't able to replicate their gloried form, they could still produce at a proficient rate.

While record has it that these types of regressions are often permanent, if both of them can compete at a better-than-average level, they should have enough firepower to ease the load off Carmelo Anthony and Rookie of the Year runner-up Kristaps Porzingis.

Health is the main factor here, as even a shining production can become mutilated if either Rose or Noah has an extended absence — as long as they remain on the floor, they're likely to shake off any rust and fix any potential issues of them fitting into the triangle system.

The concern is more for Rose than for Noah, as the latter is an effort guy and everything that he can offer at the offensive end is merely a bonus for the Knicks.

Only time will tell if Jeff Hornacek‘s team is ready to take the next step and challenge for a playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.
