The Chicago Bulls made a lot of headlines during the summer when they traded former MVP and top overall pick, Derrick Rose to the New York Knicks. It may have come as a surprise to many seeing them move the hometown hero, but if things all panned out according to their plans, that wouldn't have been the only shocker they made in the offseason.

A lot of rumors circulated before the draft involving the Bulls trying to move up the order and select Providence standout Kris Dunn, but in order for them to do that, they needed to make a trade with the Boston Celtics, who owned the number three pick. The Bean Town team asked for a steep price in exchange for their pick, and the Bulls strongly considered making the deal – they would have given up their All-Star shooting guard, Jimmy Butler.

Head coach Fred Hoiberg recently spoke about looking at all the options available to them to possibly acquire Dunn. He also explained how their talks went during the Draft Combine and what they saw in Dunn that made them get involved in trade discussions with the Celtics for a possible swap.

“We prepared for pretty much everything, so we watched a lot of video of all the guys that were in this draft. When we did watch Dunn, special talent, special kid. He's a kid who gets it. I think he's going to be special in this league when it's all said and done.”

As it turned out, Dunn was selected fifth overall by the Minnesota Timberwolves, who now have former Bulls head coach Tom Thibodeau at the helm. Chicago on the other hand was successful in adding Dwyane Wade and Rajon Rondo to their fold and now have one of the most dynamic backcourts in the league.

The Chicago faithful are happy that deal did not push through as their team is now geared to compete for a playoff spot with Butler leading their charge.
