Chicago Bulls guard Michael Carter-Williams has decided to do with a new number.

Not long after being traded to Chicago from the Bucks, he revealed that he would wear the number one on his jersey, which just so happened to be Derrick Rose‘s old number.

Carter-Williams cited the number as his old lucky Sixers number where he had the most individual success in his career.

While he has yet to play in a game, the former Rookie of the Year revealed to CSN Chicago's Cody Westerlund Monday night that  he would wear number seven instead.

Carter-Williams presumably wanted to bypass any controversy and not appear that he is taking a shot at Rose in any kind of way.

I’ve been No. 1 a lot. The discussion is probably going to be about D-Rose, that was his old number. It has nothing to do with D-Rose, who was great for this city. He’s an excellent player. I’m not trying to step on anyone’s toes or anyone’s boundaries. It’s a number I like.

They asked me what number I wanted. I said one. There wasn’t too much discussion. I know this organization respects Derrick Rose. Like I said, it has nothing to do with stepping on anyone’s toes or anything like that. He was a great player. He did a lot for the city.

A physical for Carter-Williams is scheduled for Tuesday morning, and coach Fred Hoiberg expects him to be in practice on Wednesday.
