The Boston Celtics are an emerging power in the Eastern Conference. Last season, many did not expect them to win a lot of games and even make the playoffs, but the team silenced their doubters by finishing with a winning record and became a participant in the postseason.

One of their major strengths is their dynamic backcourt consisting of players who can be effective on both the offensive and defensive end. The Celtics are also well managed when it comes to salaries as Isaiah Thomas, Avery Bradley and Marcus Smart are all in team-friendly deals considering how much guards who have similar skills as them are getting paid.

However, their good standing will change soon as Smart will be eligible for an extension next year while Thomas and Bradley are both slated to be free agents in 2018. The three will most certainly demand for higher salaries and the Celtics will not be able to pay them all especially after being vocal about getting another big name in the future.

The viable option Danny Ainge and company should consider is trading one of them for an up and coming player who they feel can fit in their system and that someone should come cheap. They also have Terry Rozier who can fill in for one of their three guards should one get traded or opts to sign with another team, which makes this option more than feasible for them.

However, if things go well for the Bean Town team this season and they'll be able to make a deep run in the playoffs, their management will have a difficult time deciding what to do with their talented guards.

The situation in Boston is definitely something worth monitoring. If there's one thing certain, it will be a very busy summer for Brad Stevens and their front office personnel next year. It is also interesting to see how they'll fare this season, as the future of some of their players will hinge on how successful they'll be in the next few months.
