It appears the Los Angeles Clippers head coach Doc Rivers has some insider information regarding the status of Oklahoma City Thunder star Russell Westrbook heading into the Clippers-Thunder matchup on Friday night.

Multiple reports are stating that Westbrook is doubtful to make his season debut against the Clippers on Friday as he has yet to fully recover from a procedure performed on his right knee in September. Nonetheless, Rivers is adamant that Westbrook will be available, and that he is making the necessary preparations for the same.

Westbrook sat out the Thunder's opening night loss against the defending champs Golden State Warriors on Tuesday and is reportedly yet to participate in full contact activities in practice. Unless the Clippers' coach knows something that we don't — which according to him comes from his inside sources — then it would be a surprise to see the former MVP take the court on Friday.

This may just be a case of Rivers preparing for the worst case scenario. As seen in the Thunder's defeat against the Warriors, the team did miss the services of their star point guard. The Thunder are unquestionably a much better side when Westrbook is playing, and erring on the side of caution, Rivers is preparing his team for this very possibility.

For the veteran coach, being over-prepared is much better than being caught off guard. If Westbrook is indeed unavailable against the Clippers, then great. However, if he actually suits up, then at least his side will be ready.
