John Elway and the Denver Broncos are heading into what is expected to be a very busy offseason. After missing the playoffs in 2018, the Broncos fired head coach Vance Joseph and replaced him with Vic Fangio. Now, they should consider bringing in free agent quarterback Colin Kaepernick this offseason.

Some will ask why the Broncos should consider signing a veteran quarterback like Kaepernick. After all, if they don't want to stick with Case Keenum, shouldn't they just turn to the NFL Draft?

First and foremost, the Broncos need to bring in competition for Keenum. He showed some promise during his first year as the starter in Denver, but he has more work to do. Kaepernick may not have played since the 2016 NFL season, but he has kept himself in shape for another opportunity.

Secondly, Elway and company have no interest in rebuilding. They are looking to compete and get back into the postseason. That would put the idea of taking a quarterback in the draft out of consideration.

Kaepernick has been out of the NFL for the past couple of seasons due to multiple different issues. He has a hectic media following due to the kneeling that he did with the San Francisco 49ers in 2016. In addition to the media circus that would follow him signing anywhere, Kaepernick is not the most mechanically sound passer.

If the Broncos want to be as competitive as possible, they need to bring in the most talent that they can. Kaepernick may not be a perfect quarterback, but he has talent and has had success throughout his career.

Keenum may not be the guy that powers the Broncos back into playoff contention. If he starts the season slow, a guy like Kaepernick could be the perfect replacement.

Expect to hear plenty of Kaepernick rumors once again this offseason. He is ready to play, wants to play, and a team like the Broncos should strongly consider giving him a chance.
