According to the former MVP, he went back home to Chicago to be with his mother and attend to a family situation. However, that may not be the only reason why he suddenly decided not to report to work on Monday.
There have been reports that surfaced that the distance he has with his son now that he plays for the Knicks is taking its toll on him and he is missing him badly.
Regarding Rose, told this isn't all of it but that being away from his son more is weighing very heavily on him.

After being selected first overall in the 2008 draft by the Chicago Bulls, Rose found himself in the perfect scenario as he can play professional basketball and still be close to home, but last summer he was surprisingly traded by his home team to the Knicks which caught him off guard and left him with no choice but to move to New York and be away from his son, P.J.
With the start of discussions for his a new contract nearing, it will be interesting to find out if the Knicks will still extend one to him and how much he is willing to accept it. He may prefer to play once again for the Bulls but after trading him only a few months ago, it will be very hard to imagine him being offered a contract by the franchise.
