10 years ago, a lanky kid in Greece picked up a basketball for the first time, and little did he know, his life will be forever changed by that one moment.

Giannis Antetokounmpo entered the NBA as raw as a rookie can be. He was supposed to be a draft-and-stash for the Milwaukee Bucks, but circumstances allowed him to be thrown into the fire in an instant.

It was a risk for the Bucks, and that gamble paid off in a huge way. The Greek Freak is now among the league’s most popular and promising players. While Antetokounmpo was already an elite physical prospect to begin with, the guidance of head coach Jason Kidd took his development to another level.

“He puts himself in our shoes because he was in our shoes,” Antetokounmpo told Genaro Armas via the Daily Herald. “It helps a lot because taking tips from J-Kidd — he was a player that was one of the best that’s ever done.”

“It’s really easy to accept (Kidd’s mentoring) because he’s been in my shoes. He knows how I feel right now.”

Similar to Kidd during his playing days, Antetokounmpo can do it all on the floor. In fact, his 22.9 points, 8.7 rebounds, 5.4 assists, 1.6 steals, and 1.9 blocks have put the Bucks’ star to his solo place in the NBA record books.

The future is bright for Giannis Antetokounmpo, and if his partnership with Jason Kidd continues to blossom, it may only be a matter of time before he carries the Bucks to heights they have never imagined.
