In the latest sports crossover news, retired Miami Heat guard Dwyane Wade reportedly is interested in one day owning an NFL franchise.

The 37-year-old Heat legend and three-time NBA champion retired following the conclusion of the 2018-19 season after 16 years as a professional athlete.

The Heat made Wade the fifth overall selection in the lauded 2003 NBA Draft class, where he ended up earning 13 All-Star Game appearances and won Finals MVP honors in the south Florida franchise's first title in 2006.

Per Michael Kaskey-Blomain in CBS Sports:

Basketball wasn't the only sport that the two touched on, as the conversation also turned to NFL ownership: something which Wade said he would be interested in if the right situation presented itself.

“So for me, if that opportunity ever presents itself, I would do it, but I need the ability to be able to bring some others with me, so once we get in there, whatever change, whatever we've been talking about, we can do it together,” Wade said of NFL ownership. “We can create this, we're stronger in numbers than we are by ourselves, so that's the only way I would do it. But I would love to.”

Wade declaration of intent to purchase a stake in an NFL team comes weeks after friend, rapper, and businessman Jay-Z made headlines for partnering with the football league to drive “diversity” and raise charitable efforts going to a shady organization.

In the past, Wade's ex-teammate LeBron James, now with the Los Angeles Lakers, has expressed interest in owning an NFL team as well.
