Boston Celtics point guard Isaiah Thomas put up a courageous performance in a 106-102 Game 1 loss in his first-round matchup against the Chicago Bulls, dropping 33 points, six assists, and five rebounds.

The All-Star dynamo played despite the tragic news of the death of his sister Chyna, who died in a one-car crash on Interstate 5 of her native Washington.

Head coach Brad Stevens told reporters that Thomas plans to play Game 2 on Tuesday night and attend his sister's funeral the next day. He is also expected to suit up with the team for Game 3 in Chicago this Friday.

Stevens was hopeful the travel schedule would allow the rest of the team to attend the funeral as well, according to Scott Souza of the Metro West Daily News.

Thomas was seen visibly upset prior to Game 1, still mourning the loss of his sister throughout the team's early shootaround. He was also spotted at Monday's practice, but did not speak to reporters.

Isaiah Thomas is the Celtics engine and the team will need him at any capacity to take the lead back from the Bulls. He was third in the league in scoring this season with 28.9 points per game.
