Sunday turned out to be a good one for the Utah Jazz. With a little help from the New Orleans Pelicans, they were able to accomplish a feat that the franchise last accomplished in 2012 — clinching a spot in the postseason.

With the Denver Nuggets‘ loss to the Pelicans, the Jazz secured a playoff berth after a five-year drought. They are also in a good position to secure one of the top four seeds in the Western Conference and guarantee themselves homecourt advantage in the first round, currently sitting in fourth place and a game ahead of the L.A. Clippers.

Despite much of the attention given to the Houston Rockets for their current success, the Jazz are quietly having a good run as well. They have been an under-the-radar team all season long and will be a very difficult squad to beat in the playoffs.

Their core of Gordon Hayward, Rudy Gobert, George Hill and Derrick Favors are coming into their own and will contribute to their team's quest of making a deep playoff run.

However, it's not just the four aforementioned players that have been instrumental to Utah's record this year. Head coach Quin Snyder is doing a fantastic job making sure the team understands the system he has in place. The Jazz bench has also shown a lot of grit as they are giving their starters huge lifts night in and night out.

The only challenge for the Utah Jazz is trying to convince Hayward and Hill to remain in Salt Lake City after this season, especially if this year's playoff run is short-lived. Should their top brass be able to sign both to contract extensions in this summer's free agency, they will be able to continue playing at a high level and further improve with the same group of players in years to come.
