Jeremy Lin‘s move to the Brooklyn Nets has led to various responses. Some say it's a good ploy since he has the chance to run a team with nothing to lose, while others do not think he's the player who should take on this big role.

But the Harvard product has a believer who has a deeper understanding of who he is as a player: his former coach with the Houston Rockets, Kevin McHale.

In an interview with Brian Lewis of the New York Post, the hall-of-famer sung high-praises for Lin:

“He has high effort. He’s going to make mistakes, but they’re going to be mistakes of effort. You’ll never have to encourage him go full-blast, maybe to go a little slower. He’s very aggressive, that hasn’t changed. That was the way he was in Houston. I think you’ll see the same thing with the Nets.

“He’s not afraid of the big shot, not afraid of moment, he plays very close to the reckless side. That’s what makes him a good player. He still plays hard. I don’t think a lot will change. But he’s a better player than when I saw him, and he’s become content being Jeremy Lin, not Jeremy Linsanity.”

McHale added what he thinks Link, a player he coached for three seasons, has improved on over the past few season:

“He’s a better shooter, a better defender. He’s more disciplined, a better decision-maker. He’s a better shooter, which sets up his ability to drive more. All those things he got better in. He’s much better in a lot of different ways.”

In two weeks time, the regular season kicks off – and with it the start of Lin's new journey. The team is projected to have one of the worst records in the league, but playing without pressure may serve them well.

It may seem like a long shot, but it's not entirely impossible for Jeremy Lin and company to surprise a lot of people and string some wins together.
