Carmelo Anthony can breathe a sigh of relief today. It was all well that Kristaps Porzingis was a steal in the 2015 NBA Draft, but there was still lingering concern about the future of the team, and whether the rebuilding process was happening a little bit slower than he expected.

After speaking with Phil Jackson, Anthony’s doubts about the teams future were cleared. Along with acquiring Derrick Rose from the Chicago Bulls, Jackson is already looking into the teams future and other possibilities, including signing Rose long term.

Rose expressed interest in playing and remaining with the New York Knicks, and if all goes well this season, Jackson will make it very easy to accommodate his desires to stay.
Jackson recently spoke with ESPN about Rose’s future with the Knicks:

This is about a season ahead of us. And Derrick's got a drive in him. I know he's going to want to do well. And we'll cross that as we go along into next year. Yeah, we'd like to have a long-term [deal], and that's certainly one of the great things about it. But there's all the possibilities down the road of what's going to happen to the NBA in the future years.

Despite earlier media reports about Jackson not having things together this summer, he has a plan in place, and has thought it out well into the future. Most of those earlier reports turned out to be speculative, with no truth in regards to the move the Knicks front office had in operation.

Sure there are risks involved, but that has been considered and accounted for, and Jackson feels confident that he is on the right path, to bring the Knicks back into the relevancy and more future post season trips, starting with Derrick Rose.
