The New York Knicks have been searching for better talent for a number of years now.

After first trading for Carmelo Anthony, they've been unsuccessful in recruiting star talent in free agency. New York was unable to strike gold in the LeBron James sweepstakes in 2010, the Knicks acquired Anthony and he has shouldered much of the burden alone.

While finding star talent and convincing them to play in New York hasn't been easy,
Kristaps Porzingis, who is in his second season with the Knicks, thinks he can help with the recruiting process.

Speaking with reporters on Wednesday, Porzingis says he will accept the recruiting challenge when the time comes.

I think (I'll recruit players), yeah. Of course, you want to build a team around you so you can win, so you can go all the way and win the championship one day. Of course, that's on everybody's mind, I think, that's in a position to do that.

But right now, I'm not worried about who I can recruit. I'm just focusing on my team, being the best I can this year and then going forward, you know, stuff can happen.

Anthony tried to convince Kevin Durant to join the Knicks before signing with the Warriors, but the efforts did not pay off.

There were conversations. We had multiple conversations just about New York, the Knicks, him. As far as where his mindset was at, I don't think nobody knew where his mind was at. It was his sole decision. There were multiple conversations and dialogues between us, whether it was coming to New York and the city of New York and basketball in general.

The best chance to try again is next summer when Durant opts out of his current deal if he is not content with being a Warrior.

If history says anything, the chances of that happening are slim to none, but at least Porzingis credits Durant for helping him phrase a nickname that won't stick.

Unicorn.

That's how KD saw me last year, as a unicorn coming into the league at 7-3 who could shoot. So I guess that's the right word to explain what I'm able to do on the court, I guess. I don't know.

Is that a cool nickname? I don't know. I don't really think about it. I mean, people don't call me on the street, ‘Hey, Unicorn!'

Let's hope his recruiting game is much better than his nickname ideas.
