Los Angeles Lakers superstar small forward LeBron James reportedly thought Magic Johnson “did well” during his appearance on ESPN's First Take on Monday.

Johnson, who stepped down from his president role with the Lakers during an impromptu press conference at Staples Center near the end of the regular season, went on ESPN's First Take with Stephen A. Smith and Max Kellerman on Monday to discuss why he resigned from his post.

Johnson's departure stunned the NBA, with star LeBron James saying he would have appreciated at least a phone call.

“I respect LeBron for what he just said,” Johnson said after watching a clip of James' comments on HBO's “The Shop.” “I love LeBron, I love his family … but sometimes as a man, you have to make decisions based on your well-being. And I made that decision.”

A source close to James told ESPN that he thought Johnson “did well” during his appearance on Monday morning.

One of the main reasons James signed with the Lakers last summer is because he wanted to help Magic turn the franchise around.

That's why LeBron was shocked when he heard Johnson was leaving without hearing from the Hall of Famer. The Lakers won't be hiring anyone above general manager Rob Pelinka. They introduced new head coach Frank Vogel on Monday. James was at the press conference.
