Even understanding Matt Barnes' personality and tendencies, this number is surprising.

The Kings forward estimates that he has lost around $600,000 in fines throughout the course of his NBA career.

Via The Boston Globe:

“I think I’ve lost like $600,000 over my career for fines, so it’s time to just kind of wake up and realize they don’t like you, so you’ve got to stick to the book,” he said.

After over half a million dollars, Barnes is finally getting the hint and trying to shape up.

Barnes had some other interesting comments.

On the way the league is now with more competing stars being friends:

“The league is just too soft, too chummy,” he said.

Barnes also talked about his free agency this past summer. He was ultimately surprised to end up with the Kings as he thought he'd get a chance to be back with the Clippers again.

“It came down to the Clippers, Warriors, and Sacramento kind of jumped in late,” he said. “[Coming home] was always something I wanted to do. I just didn’t know it was going to happen. I just happened to be home for the Fourth of July visiting my family and I signed. It was kind ironic that I just happened to be in Sacramento when they called.”

Barnes is one of the great characters of the league. A true journeyman who has found his place on a lot of winning teams. The Kings have struggled to win in recent years, but seem poised for a playoff berth this season, with Barnes' veteran experience aiding the cause.
