After attempting an NBA comeback earlier this offseason, Matt Bonner announced his retirement Friday the only way he knew how — through his signature brand of comedy on Twitter.

The 12-year pro out of the University of Florida player was drafted 45th overall by the Chicago Bulls in 2003 and consequently traded to the Toronto Raptors, where he played for two full seasons before joining the San Antonio Spurs in 2006. The spurs welcomed him with open arms year after year for the next decade.

The “Red Rocket” to some and “Red Mamba” to others, Bonner was one of the most dangerous deep threats off San Antonio's bench for years, tallying 797 career three-pointers while shooting it at a 41.4 percent clip.

Matt Bonner has career averages of 5.8 points and three rebounds per game — but he'll be most remembered by his simplicity and willingness to put in the work despite being a bench player for most of his career.

If that didn't leave a mark, his self-deprecating video retirement sure will.
