When the Memphis Grizzlies saw Mike Conley, get injured, many thought that it would be the start of their slide in the standings and that they will not be able to sustain their early success without him.

However, the team proved their doubters wrong as they won seven of their last eight games without the 29-year-old Ohio State product in their lineup. Now, things will get even better for them.

After suffering a fractured vertebrae in late November, Conley was expected to miss the next six to eight weeks as he recovers from it, but recently, it was reported that he is ahead of schedule and has already been medically cleared to work out, making his imminent return possibly as early as their game on Friday against the Sacramento Kings.

Conley signed the biggest contract in NBA history for five years, $153 million, last summer and he has responded by playing the best basketball of his career. He averaged 19.2 points, 3.5 rebounds, 5.7 assists and 1.4 steals per game prior to the injury. Most importantly, he was already proving that he deserved his hefty paycheck.
