Isaiah Whitehead was drafted by the Brooklyn Nets with the 42nd pick in this year's NBA Draft.

The Utah Jazz had initially owned the pick, but the Nets decided to trade up for it.

That's the information we all already knew. What we didn't know is exactly what the Nets gave up for the pick. We knew Marcus Paige was involved in the trade, but the exact price that the Nets paid to acquire Whitehead's rights were still unknown.

That was until today. Eric Pincus of Basketball Insiders submitted a full breakdown of each deal that involved cash yesterday and included this note regarding the Jazz and Nets trade:

“…the Nets sent $3 million and the 55th pick (Marcus Paige) to the Utah Jazz for the 42nd pick (Isaiah Whitehead).  Whitehead signed for four years at $4.6 million – his first two seasons at $2.2 million are fully guaranteed.”

The $3 million that the Nets gave to the Jazz is tied for the highest sum involved in a trade for a rookie.

Isaiah Whitehead is a very talented young player who didn't deserve to fall that far in the draft. The Nets weren't expecting Isaiah to drop and decided to fork over a hefty sum to be able to acquire the young guard from Seton Hall.

Many will critique Whitehead because of his poor shooting from Seton Hall, but you have to understand that he was their only offensive weapon last year. He needed to provide the scoring for the team and sometimes that ended with him shooting a poor percentage.

The Nets believed Isaiah Whitehead to be worth the risk they took to acquire him. We'll see if it'll pay off.
