The Milwaukee Bucks have been looking to trade Greg Monroe. So far, they've come up empty.

Monroe, who signed a maximum three-year, $50 million deal with the Bucks last summer, may not be as needed anymore in Milwaukee. The Bucks also signed John Henson to a four-year, $44 million extension last October, selected Thon Maker 10th overall in June's NBA Draft, and then they signed Miles Plumlee to a four-year, $52 million contract this summer.

ESPN's Zach Lowe dropped this info on Monroe's future during a recent podcast with fellow ESPN reporter Marc Stein:

“I think [the Bucks] got closer than maybe has been reported with New Orleans during either the draft or free agency.”

Stein followed up:

“Monroe’s a New Orleans native. I think that’s where he wants to end up.”

Monroe would make an interesting partner up front with New Orleans' foundational star, Anthony Davis. Davis could protect Monroe defensively and the two should be able to learn to coexist offensively.

The Pelicans are still on the hook for Omer Asik for four more seasons, Alexis Ajinca for three more, and they drafted power forward Cheick Diallo with the third pick of the second round this summer. Those are three players that will battle for playing time, but Monroe would easily slide into the rotation after the departure of Ryan Anderson.

It might make a good fit for New Orleans, but finding a way to work the trade could be tricky. Milwaukee likely wouldn't want to take on Asik's contract, but maybe they'd consider a one-year rental of Jrue Holiday or Tyreke Evans. The Pelicans would probably be very willing to part ways with either for a shot at Monroe.
