Minnesota Timberwolves big man Nikola Pekovic hasn't played a game in the NBA for almost a full year.

He has dealt with an ankle injury that seems too stubborn to snap back to form.

Last September the team announced his season would be over after just 12 games.

Re-evaluating his current situation has brought the 6'11 big man to this day. His injury is still present and his career may be over. While Pekovic's contract isn't up until the summer of 2018, the chances of him returning are slim-to-none at this point.

Speaking at a press conference in Serbia, Pekovic says he tried everything he could to no avail.

Two years ago I struggle with my injury, I was mentally exhausted. This year I was there for two months, I tried to do everything possible, but there are times when you simply can’t. I can not run without pain.

The Timberwolves owe Pekovic $23.7 million but can apply for a medical exemption to have his salary removed from their books.

Insurance will pick up the tab, and the money will go back on the team's books to be used to sign other players.

While relatively young at age 30, it would've been fun to see Pekovic team up with Karl-Anthony Towns, but Minnesota already has a slew of younger, healthier big-men on their roster

We hope for the best, but it looks like Nikola Pekovic has already played the final game of his NBA career.
