A dark cloud hangs above the Los Angeles Clippers right now in the wake of forward Blake Griffin’s injury.

The uber-athletic do-it-all big man suffered an injury to his toe in Game 3 of the Clippers’ series against the Utah Jazz, which the team from Hollywood won. Griffin had 11 points, six rebounds, two assists, and a steal before being forced out of the game late in the second quarter.

After further tests, the Clippers announced that Blake Griffin will be held out for the remainder of the playoffs. This is certainly a devastating blow not only to the team’s chances this year, but also moving forward.

Griffin is expected to opt out of his contract in the summer, which would make him an unrestricted free agent, but a season-ending injury throws a monkey wrench in all these as health has been a big question over the course of his career.

With this unfortunate development, Chris Paul will be required to carry an even bigger burden as the Clippers attempt to survive in the postseason. Paul did a splendid job in Game 3, but things will get extra difficult for him and his teammates in the coming days as Utah smells blood in the walking-wounded L.A. team.
