The Denver Nuggets are finalizing a deal with veteran free agent shooting guard Alonzo Gee, according to Shams Charania of The Vertical.

The move comes at the heels of the team dropping forward Jarnell Stokes hours ago, and will serve to bolster the team's depleted backcourt with the recent prognosis of Gary Harris‘ injury, which could sideline him for up to four weeks.

Gee, like his counterpart Harris, is a defensive-minded wing that can stick to the opposing team's top scorer and contain him, giving head coach Mike Malone that perimeter defender he's been actively seeking.

The Nuggets have dealt with injuries to Will Barton and Wilson Chandler, two of their key scorers off the bench. While Chandler has battled through his hamstring injury and played in the last two games, he's still struggling to get fully healthy.

The addition of Gee — who would be in his second stint with the organization, will give the Nuggets a much-needed perimeter stopper that can also knock down the open shot, he is a sturdy defender with fast hands and a knack for getting in passing lanes. Coupled with the impending return of Barton, the minutes split will vary according to each individual matchup.

The Alabama alum was waived out of training camp by the New Orleans Pelicans, a team for which he started 38 of 73 total games last season.

Gee has played for six teams in seven years and holds career averages of 6.8 points and 3.3 rebounds. His best season came in 2011-12 as a member of the Cleveland Cavaliers, where he posted averages of 10.6 points and 5.1 rebounds per game.
