Vontaze Burfict has tormented the opposition over the last two seasons, but not always for the right reasons.

The Cincinnati Bengals linebacker missed the first three games this season after a crushing targeting penalty on Antonio Brown in last year's playoffs. Brown missed the divisional playoff game the following week, and the Steelers lost.

It didn't take long for Burfict to involve himself in another controversy. During this past Sunday's loss to the New England Patriots, Burfict delivered a late cheap shot to Martellus Bennett‘s knees as well as a stomp on LeGarrette Blount‘s legs after a touchdown. There was speculation that Burfict would get another suspension, but he received a lesser punishment instead.

As reported by Pro Football Talk's Zac Jackson, Burfict has not been suspended, but the NFL fined him $75,000 for his actions. To be more specific, the fine was instituted for the stomp, not the cheap shot on Bennett.

Not including the three game checks he missed out on at the start of 2016, Burfict has been fined for a total of $279,329 in his career. The previous high for one fine for Burfict was $69,000.

Given his history, Burfict and the Bengals are quite lucky that he wasn't suspended. If another one of these antics occurs, don't be surprised to see the NFL act swiftly.
