Ricky Rubio once again proved that he is one of the best at dropping dimes in the league. However, he didn’t even need to have the ball in his hands when he dropped one to Andrew Wiggins on Wednesday.
With less than two minutes to go in their game against the Denver Nuggets, the 26-year-old Spanish international passed up on a technical free throw attempt and allowed Wiggins to shoot it as he was sitting at 39 points that time.
That allowed the top overall pick of the 2014 draft to achieve a feat only three players have done before. Wiggins became just the fourth player in NBA history aged 22 or younger to record at least 40 points in consecutive games, joining LeBron James, Kevin Durant, and Allen Iverson.
He gave credit to Rubio for helping him join the elite club and thanked him for his unselfishness, via Jerry Zgoda of the Star Tribune.
“He let me have it. Ricky, he’s a good vet.”
The win on the night was their third in their last five outings and is a much needed momentum boost for the young Timberwolves squad. With the upcoming break, Wiggins and company will now be able to rest and prepare for a big push as they try to make the playoffs for the first time in 13 years.
