The San Antonio Spurs saw a dropoff in production last season from shooting guard Danny Green. In an attempt to try and get back to his old shooting self, Green underwent laser eye surgery in the offseason.

According to Michael C. Wright of ESPN, Green isn't faulting the eyesight for his bad shooting year, but he's also hoping it'll help him this coming season.

“My eyesight wasn't that bad to begin with,” Green said.

“I'm not gonna say it was (vision issues). I got the procedure done, (and) it helps. But that wasn't the reason why I was shooting poorly. Some seasons, you have good ones. Sometimes, you have bad ones. Sometimes, it's due to adjusting to chemistry. Sometimes it's due to injury. Sometimes, you just don't shoot it well. Sometimes, it's mental.”

Green averaged 11.7 points, 4.2 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 1.2 steals, and 1.1 blocks on 43.6% shooting from the field and 41.8% from downtown in the 2014-15 season. In the 2015-16 season, however, Green played just two fewer minutes per game, but saw his on-court production decrease to 7.2 points, 3.8 rebounds, 1.8 assists, 1.0 steals, and 0.8 blocks per game on 37.6% shooting from the field and 33.2% from downtown.

Coach Gregg Popovich joked about Green's shooting percentage, but is confident that Green will be back to himself this season.

“I just beat him up, and say, ‘What have you done for us lately?'” Gregg Popovich joked. “I'm not sure that [LASIK surgery is] gonna [be] a significant factor in his recovery. He'll be fine. He always plays good defense. So he'll make more shots this year. It just happens. It's called sports. Sometimes, hitters don't hit.”

Hopefully, this offseason surgery helps Green and the Spurs stay competitive at the top of the Western Conference.
