Stephen Curry first put his name on the map by leading his college team, Davidson, on a Cinderella run through March Madness his sophomore year. The Southern Conference is now honoring him with a Hall of Fame induction.

Although Davidson is now in the Atlantic 10 Conference, Curry will be inducted into the SoCon Hall of Fame since that is the conference he competed in while a Wildcat.

The conference's commissioner, John Iamarino, spoke about the impressive 2016 inductees in a press release:

“This year's group of inductees is one of the most impressive since the Hall's inaugural class of 2009. It features not only the current MVP of the NBA, but two other former SoCon basketball Players of the Year, one of the winningest quarterbacks in NCAA history, and a former collegiate golfer of the year who went on to win multiple PGA events. It is a remarkable group.”

At Davidson, Curry averaged over 25 points per game in three seasosn. Despite being the leader of his team, especially during the 2008 Elite Eight run, his jersey has not been retired by Davidson. The school will only retire a jersey for players that have graduated from the school, and Curry left after his junior year for the NBA.

The other inductees of the 2016 Southern Conference Hall of Fame class include Armanti Edwards (Appalachian State), Brad Faxon (Furman), Keith “Mister” Jennings (ETSU) and Karen Pelphrey (Marshall).
