One thing that stands out when watching the Golden State Warriors play is the joy that the players exude from being together on the floor.

They love what they’re doing and they’re having fun. Of course, winning a lot of games helps. But what’s undeniable with this Warriors squad is that the player who gets the most attention, Stephen Curry, doesn’t let it blow up his ego to any extent.

It has helped Curry become a polarizing figure in the team, and its effect even extended towards free agency. GM Bob Myers stressed in the Jim Rome Show how that particular characteristic of the back-to-back MVP played a big part in the recruitment of Kevin Durant.

“If you know Steph, he doesn't have an ego. He looked in Kevin's eyes and said, ‘I want you on this team', and he sent a brilliant text to Kevin that said, ‘If you win MVP or I win MVP, it doesn't matter; we're trying to win championships. And if you do win, I'll be in the front row clapping for you at the press conference.'”

Durant used to play with Russell Westbrook in Oklahoma City, whom many view as the exact opposite of Curry in terms of personality. Who knows, the fresh opportunity in playing with a character such as Curry might have appealed more to him than how people initially perceived.
