Players who signed contracts this past summer are eligible to be traded on Sunday. The Washington Wizards, according to Jeff Zillgitt of USA TODAY Sports, are ‘ready to make moves.'

The Wizards are 7-16 on the season. They are in the 12th spot in the Eastern Conference standings and not expected to compete for a playoff spot.

The Wizards, under first-year GM Tommy Sheppard, are ready to make moves. Davis Bertans is an unrestricted free agent, and his shooting makes him coveted. He will demand a high price in free agency, and the Wizards will try to figure out if they want to try and keep him or get something for him.

Bertans becomes an unrestricted free agent next summer and he could get paid handsomely. According to David Aldridge of The Athletic, Bertans could get between $15 million and $20 million per season next summer, although opinions vary on what he will get on the open market.

This season, Bertans is making $7 million with the Wizards. He’s been one of the biggest surprises of the season. The swingman is averaging 15.7 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 1.6 assists through 23 games while shooting 47.4 percent from the field, 46.5 percent from beyond the arc and 87.5 percent from the free-throw line.

The Wizards acquired Bertans from the San Antonio Spurs this past offseason in a deal that was made for the Spurs to sign Marcus Morris, who backed out of his agreement with San Antonio and signed with the New York Knicks instead.

Teams are always looking for stretch forwards who can shoot accurate from deep. Bertans figures to get a nice payday next summer. We’ll see if the Wizards decide to trade him to avoid the risk of him walking for nothing in free agency if they have already decided they don't want to pay him once the season ends.
