The 2024 WNBA season tips-off next week and teams have been busy making their final roster moves and trying to whittle their rosters down to at least 12 players if not 11 due to salary camp restraints. One team that still had multiple roster cuts to make was the Phoenix Mercury and they did just that on Saturday while adding depth in the frontcourt with Liz Dixon as per Khristina Williams of Girls Talk Sports TV.

The Mercury made massive roster cuts by waving Charisma Osborne, Jaz Shelley, Bella Murekatete, Amy Atwell, Mya Hollingshed, Air Hearn and Christyn Williams. The cuts brought their roster to ten players and the Liz Dixon signing brought the Mercury roster back to the required minimum of 11 players.

Liz Dixon is no stranger to the Mercury organization. She went undrafted in the 2023 WNBA Draft and immediately signed a training camp contract with the Mercury. She was one of the team's final roster cuts prior to the start of the 2023 season but was brought back on a hardship contract due to lack of available players.

She was ultimately released from her hardship contract and later signed with the Connecticut Sun. Following her release from the Sun, Dixon rejoined the Mercury on a trio of 7-day contracts before being cut again.

During her rookie season, Dixon appeared in a total of 14 games between the Mercury and the Sun in a little over five minutes per game. She averaged 1.9 points per game and 1.1 rebounds with splits of 52.6 percent shooting from the field and 87.5 percent shooting from the free throw line.

With the Mercury roster now at 11 players, it looks like Dixon has secured a roster spot for now. She's a mobile center who is an efficient finisher around the basket.

Coming into the 2024 WNBA season, the Mercury are going to look a little bit different. They brought in two key additions during the offseason in Kahleah Copper and Natasha Cloud. Both players have won championships and should fit right into the starting lineup.

Copper was the 2021 WNBA Finals MVP with the Chicago Sky. She was acquired by the Mercury from the Sky in a trade that sent key depth pieces in Michaela Onyenwere and Brianna Turner to the Sky. This past season Copper was named to her third consecutive All-Star appearance.

Last season, Copper appeared in 38 games for the Sky at a little over 31 minutes per game. She averaged a career high 18.7 points per game, 4.4 rebounds and 2.0 assists with splits of 44.8 percent shooting from the three point line, 40.4 percent shooting from the three point line and 77 percent shooting from the free throw line.

Cloud was key member of the 2019 Washington Mystics championship squad. She also had a career year in 2023 in what was her final season with the Mystics. She signed as a free agent with the Mercury after spending the first eight seasons of her career with the Mystics.

She appeared in 37 games for the Mystics at a little over 32 minutes per game. She averaged a career high 12.7 points per game, 3.7 rebounds, 6.2 assists and 1.1 steals with splits of 37.7 percent shooting from the field, 29.8 percent shooting from the three point line and 90 percent shooting from the free throw line.
