The Los Angeles Sparks take on the Las Vegas Aces. Our WNBA odds series has our Sparks Aces prediction, odds, and pick. Find out how to watch Sparks Aces.

The Los Angeles Sparks appear to be in for a long season. It is notable that each of the top two picks in the 2024 WNBA draft are facing a lot of losing this year, barring an unexpected turn of events. Caitlin Clark, the No. 1 overall pick in the draft, is 0-2 with the Indiana Fever and headed for a difficult rookie season. No. 2 pick Cameron Brink is likely to endure a lot of losing as well with the Sparks, who gave up 92 points to the Atlanta Dream — a team unlikely to finish in the top four of the WNBA this season — and lost by 11 points at home in their season opener.

Caitlin Clark and Cameron Brink lost very few games in college at Iowa and Stanford, respectively. Now in the WNBA — with teams which finished at or near the bottom of the league last season — they are immersed in rebuilding projects. Clark and the Fever have already been trounced by 2023 WNBA runner-up New York. The Liberty thrashed the Fever by 36 on Thursday. Now Cameron Brink and the Sparks must face the team which defeated the Liberty in last year's WNBA Finals, the defending champion Las Vegas Aces. The Sparks hope that the Aces won't fire on all cylinders the way the Liberty did in the fourth quarter of Thursday's runaway.

Cameron Brink's WNBA education is destined to involve a lot of tough lessons. They are necessary, but they are going to be painful nonetheless.

Why The Sparks Could Cover The Spread

The spread is 19 points. The Aces are the class of the WNBA, but they did not cover the spread in their season-opening game against the Phoenix Mercury earlier this week. They were a double-digit favorite but won by only nine points. Everyone is going to throw their best punch at the Aces. Las Vegas figures to do enough to win the game, but when a team is absorbing opponents' best shots every time out, there is a natural tendency to conserve energy and drift through portions of games instead of playing every minute with maximum intensity. The Aces are typically at their best in the postseason. They might not go all-in against the Sparks and other teams they know they can beat. If the Aces coast for large portions of this game, they won't cover the 19-point spread.

Why The Aces Could Cover The Spread

The Aces were far from their best in the season opener against Phoenix. After several days off — and facing one of the worst teams in the WNBA — the Aces figure to be much more in rhythm and far more precise and polished than they were in their opener. That should be more than enough to blow the doors off this game.
