The Diamondbacks face the Reds in Cincinnati! Both teams come into this series struggling with the Diamondbacks just breaking a losing streak, while the Reds are currently on a five-game losing streak. Our MLB odds series has our Diamondbacks-Reds prediction, odds, and pick for Tuesday.

The Diamondbacks have struggled this season on their way to a 15-20 record. They most recently won to break a three-game losing streak. The Diamondbacks have had a strong season behind the plate, as a top-10 team in batting average. Their pitching has taken a dip and is in the bottom half of the MLB. Lourdes Gurriel Jr., Ketel Marte, Joc Pederson, Corbin Carroll, and Christian Walker have been great behind the plate, while Zac Gallen and Merrill Kelly have been very good so far on the mound even with Kelly currently injured. The Diamondbacks are a more talented team on paper than the team that won the NL last season, but they need to figure things out sooner rather than later.

The Reds have been inconsistent to start the season with a 16-18 record and are currently on a five-game losing streak. The Reds have struggled to get going behind the plate ranking dead last in the MLB in team batting average. Their pitching has been better but is still in the bottom half of the MLB in team ERA. Spencer Steer, Elly De La Cruz, Will Benson, and Jake Fraley have been standouts in a struggling offense to start the season. Andrew Abbott, Hunter Greene, and Graham Ashcraft have all been varying levels of good for the Reds on the mound. The Reds need to get back on track with all their struggles recently.

Why The Diamondbacks Will Cover The Spread/Win

The Diamondbacks are putting Zac Gallen on the mound where he has a 3-2 record, a 3.38 ERA, and a 1.22 WHIP. Through 32 innings, Gallen has allowed 12 runs on 30 hits with nine walks and 35 strikeouts. The Diamondbacks are 3-3 in the six games that he's appeared in this season. In his last start, he pitched five innings and gave up three runs on three hits with one walk and three strikeouts. Last season, Gallen was great in Arizona, and had a 17-9 record and then a .347 ERA and a 1.12 WHIP. Gallen needs to play better for the Diamondbacks because he has been more inconsistent this season. He gets a very good matchup against a struggling Reds offense.

The offense for the Diamondbacks has been very good this season. The Diamondbacks are ninth in the MLB in team batting average at .249 after having a team batting average of .250 last season where they finished 14th in the MLB. Ketel Marte and Christian Walker lead the team in almost every important batting category. At least 11 Diamondbacks have hit one home run so far this season. Marte leads the team in batting average at .307 and in total hits at 42. Walker leads in home runs at seven, in RBI at 24, and in OBP at .391.

Why The Reds Will Cover The Spread/Win

The Reds are putting Frankie Montas on the mound where he has a 2-2 record, a 4.19 ERA, and a 1.45 WHIP. Through 19.1 innings, he has allowed 11 runs on 18 hits with 10 walks and 14 strikeouts up to this point in the season. In his five appearances, the Reds are 3-2 in the four games that he's appeared in this season. In his last start before getting injured, he pitched in two innings, allowing five runs on three hits with five walks and one strikeout in a loss. He only appeared in one game last season and helped the Yankees to a win. He has a tough matchup against the Diamondbacks and how good they have been behind the plate.

The Reds have struggled on offense this season. They are dead last in batting average at .210 and that's after they finished with a .249 batting average last season. Elly De La Cruz leads the way in most batting categories next to Spencer Steer. De La Cruz leads the way in batting average at .271, in home runs at eight, in OBP at .377, and in total hits at 32. Steer then leads in RBI at 23. This is going to be a tough matchup because Zac Gallen is very capable on the mound.

Final Diamondbacks-Reds Prediction & Pick

The Diamondbacks are set up well heading into this game. They have the pitching advantage in Zac Gallen over Frankie Montas and then they have a much better offense than the Reds do currently. Expect the Diamondbacks to keep their rebound going and win and cover on the road in Cincinnati.
