The Giants are playing inconsistent baseball right now. Now, they are in danger of falling further out of the National League West divisional race. San Francisco hopes to end the series strong before heading to the City of Brotherly Love for a four-game series with the Philadelphia Phillies.

The Red Sox are competing in a tough American League East division. Amazingly, they are finding ways to stay right behind the New York Yankees and Baltimore Orioles. The Sox hope to finish this series on a good note before heading to Minneapolis for a three-game series with the Minnesota Twins.

Kyle Harrison starts for the Giants. He is 2-1 with a 4.09 ERA. Recently, he tossed six shutout innings while allowing five hits and striking out seven in a no-decision against the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Why The Giants Will Cover The Spread/Win

The Giants have displayed some inconsistent tendencies at the plate. So far, they are 14th in batting average and 19th in on-base percentage. They are also just 23rd in runs, 21st in home runs, and 23rd in slugging percentage. Ultimately, they need their hitters to start finding better pitches and making the most of them.

Lamonte Wade Jr. has been one of the few bright spots in San Francisco. Significantly, he is hitting .333 with one home run, eight RBIs, and 11 runs. Wade looks to get the offense going to help his team get some runs across the board. Yet, he will also need some help from his teammates. Wilmer Flores is batting .235 with 10 RBIs and six runs. Unfortunately, he is just not doing enough at the plate to help the Giants win.

Matt Chapman has had mixed results in San Francisco. So far, he is batting .221 with four home runs, 14 RBIs, and 15 runs. Look for him to try and shorten his swing to get some runners home. Meanwhile, Michael Conforto is hitting .266 with five home runs, 16 RBIs, and 15 runs. He looks like the best hitter in this lineup after Wade.

The Giants' pitching has not been good so far. Unfortunately, they are just 24th in ERA and 18th in walks per nine innings. They need to work on improving this to win more games.

The Giants will cover the spread if the offense can generate some early scoring. Then, they need Harrison to pitch well and hold the Boston hitters down.

Why The Red Sox Will Cover The Spread/Win

The Red Sox have stayed alive mainly because of solid hitting and great pitching. Significantly, they are seventh in batting average and eighth in on-base percentage. The Red Sox are also 12th in runs, fourth in home runs, and seventh in slugging percentage. Therefore, their players are stepping up when they need to.

Jarren Duran has been a solid leadoff hitter. So far, he is batting .268 with one home run, 14 RBIs, and 15 runs. Rafael Devers has been great since he returned from a stint on the injured list. Currently, he is hitting .282 with three home runs, seven RBIs, and 10 runs. Tyler O'Neil is doing a solid job as the third hitter. At the moment, he is hitting .320 with nine home runs, 12 RBIs, and 20 runs. This puts him on pace for 45 home runs, 72 RBIs, and 120 runs.

The Red Sox are also the best team in the majors in team ERA. Furthermore, they are third in walks per nine innings. Look for their pitching staff to keep things rolling.

The Red Sox will cover the spread if their lineup can keep producing. Then, they need a quality start from their starter and good bullpen work.

Final Giants-Red Sox Prediction & Pick

The Giants are middling right now. Conversely, the Red Sox have been excellent. Both teams want to end this series on a strong note. Yet, the Sox have more momentum right now. Expect the Red Sox to find a way to piece together some good hits. Then, they will get solid pitching all over the place. The Red Sox find a way to win this game and cover the spread at home.
