The Miami Marlins take on the Los Angeles Dodgers. Our MLB odds series has our Marlins Dodgers prediction and pick. Find out how to watch Marlins Dodgers.

The Los Angeles Dodgers have just swept the Atlanta Braves. They dominated Atlanta over the weekend, shutting down the powerful Braves in three games. They won an extra-inning squeaker on Friday but then hammered the Braves on Saturday and wiped them out in a strong 5-1 win on Sunday. Shohei Ohtani hit two home runs in the Sunday win and had a brilliant series against the Braves. It was in many ways his coming-out party as a Dodger. Ohtani had been hitting for a high average but hadn't been muscling up and swatting dingers with the regularity fans had been hoping for. The weekend brought forth the vintage version of Ohtani the Dodgers have craved. This was the team which Dave Roberts and the rest of the organization envisioned when the season began. This team — the one we saw over the weekend against Atlanta — is the best team in baseball and a foremost World Series contender.

Now the Dodgers — who looked like an average team in the first three weeks of the season — turn to a very important moment in their season: the return of starting pitcher Walker Buehler to the rotation. He has not pitched in a major league game in 22 months, due to having Tommy John surgery. He has pitched just over 20 innings of minor-league ball in rehab starts in recent weeks, but major-league action is a different animal, and it will be fascinating to see how he reacts. Naturally, getting an elite version of Buehler back in the rotation would significantly raise the Dodgers' ceiling.

Why The Marlins Could Cover The Spread

The Dodgers are going to hope that Walker Buehler will be sharp, but after so much time away from the big leagues, is that a reasonable expectation in this game? Buehler, when polished and in rhythm, is an elite starting pitcher, and no one questions that, but in this one game — a return from a long MLB absence — Buehler is a wild card, and he probably won't be on top of his game. That's all the Marlins will need to win or at least prevail on the run line.

Why The Dodgers Could Cover The Spread

The Dodgers just crushed the Braves, and now they play a Marlins team which just traded Luis Arraez, one of the elite hitters in the game. It's a mismatch on paper, even with variables attached to Walker Buehler. It could be that Buehler won't be sharp, but as long as the Marlins don't score five or more runs, the Dodgers should be able to score a healthy amount and win anyway, perhaps by a 7-5 or 6-4 score.

Final Marlins-Dodgers Prediction & Pick

The Dodgers have been on a roll, but Buehler is a real wild card. We usually pick teams on the run line in these predictions, but in this case, the total is a better play. The over looks very attractive at this number. It should at least be a 5-4 or 6-3 game either way. Take the over.

Final Marlins-Dodgers Prediction & Pick: Over 8.5
