The Cincinnati Reds take on the San Francisco Giants. Our MLB odds series has our Reds Giants prediction and pick. Find out how to watch Reds Giants.

The San Francisco Giants and Cincinnati Reds are both in a very bad place. The Reds came to San Francisco having lost eight straight games. They broke the losing streak on Friday night but then lost on Saturday, meaning they have dropped nine of their last 10 ballgames. The Giants beat the Reds on Saturday, but that win doesn't significantly change their recent trajectory. The Giants had lost eight of their previous 11 games before Saturday's victory. They were crushed in a four-game sweep last weekend by the Philadelphia Phillies and continue to lack answers at the plate. The Giants' pitching hasn't been spectacular this season, but it has been decent. San Francisco's hitting, on the other hand, has been a disaster. It's not a shock that the Giants haven't been able to hit high-end pitchers, but they can't even score consistently against middle-of-the-rotation pitchers.

Both the Reds and Giants entered the season with legitimate and realistic expectations of getting a National League wild card berth. The Reds were in the wild card hunt until the final weeks of the 2023 season. The Giants won the National League West championship in 2021 and — strictly in terms of World Series titles — remain Major League Baseball's most successful franchise over the past 15 years, dating back to 2009. If either of these two teams want to be serious contenders for a playoff spot, they will need to change their respective trajectories. They will need an 8-2 stretch of 10 games at some point. They will need to steadily reverse the negative patterns which have marked their seasons after one and a half months of competition.

Why The Reds Could Cover The Spread

The Giants have been a light-hitting team this season. They just don't get a lot of big hits, and they don't generae any sort of consistent offense. Matt Chapman, a high-profile acquisition in the offseason, has not delivered the goods. The Giants don't have rock-solid dependable hitters in their batting order. Opposing pitchers have no one they have to pitch around. The Giants are mediocre, impotent and vulnerable. This doesn't seem like an aberration. It seems this is the team the Giants actually are: not very good. The Reds should be able to handle them.

Why The Giants Could Cover The Spread

The Giants have struggled of late, but they beat the Reds on Saturday, and they know that as bad as they have been in their own right, the Reds have been worse over the past 10 games. Cincinnati is 1-9 in those 10 games. The Reds have had a very difficult time scoring more than four runs in any game they have played in the month of May. Cincinnati has struggled to hit the ball up and down the lineup. It's not a matter of one or two hitters; it's the whole batting order. That's a crisis the Giants can exploit.

Final Reds-Giants Prediction & Pick

These teams traded wins the past two days in which the aces — Logan Webb for San Francisco on Friday and Nick Lodolo for Cincinnati on Saturday — took the loss. This game feels like a coin flip, so you should pass on it.

Final Reds-Giants Prediction & Pick: Giants -1.5
