One of the greatest rivalries in all of baseball will take place on the West Coast when the Los Angeles Dodgers battle it out with the San Francisco Giants. It is about that time to check out our MLB odds series where our Dodgers-Giants prediction and pick will be revealed.

Given one of the highest payrolls in the game, the Dodgers are backing up their bank account on the way to a 28-15 record through the team's first 43 games of the regular season. As of late, it has been Los Angeles that is just 2-2 in their previous four contests, but they were able to snag game one of this in-state rivalry series by besting San Francisco in extra innings 6-4. With the win over the Giants, the Dodgers are now a perfect 4-0 on the season versus their California counterparts. At the moment, the Dodgers are undecided on who will take the mound for Wednesday's tilt.

On the other side of things, the Giants are scuffling, but there is still time to turn things around. On paper, San Fran may find themselves at a hefty talent disadvantage, but the Giants will try to negate that by relying on righty Logan Webb. Despite having a losing record of 3-4 in his first nine starts on the season, he still owns a rather solid 3.38 ERA which is the 37th-best mark in the majors. Can he lead his troops to victory against the club's arch-nemesis?

Why The Dodgers Will Cover The Spread/Win

A fast start by the Dodgers would certainly help their case in covering the spread in back-to-back games versus the Giants, but whoever is on the mound for LA will need to flex their muscles to the best of their ability.

As a whole, the Dodgers are a well-balanced crew that can terrorize their prey, but making sure to take advantage of the pitcher's friendly Oracle Park will need to be priority number one for the Dodgers. Currently, the boys in blue are ranked third in ERA (3.18), and second in WHIP (1.10) and batting average against (.212). As long as the Dodgers disrupt the Giants' rhythm at the plate from the opening get-go, then they will be in pretty good shape.

Just when you think it couldn't get any better for LA, one brief glance at the offensive numbers that the Dodgers have out together, and you are left in awe. In fact, no other team in all of Major League Baseball is as dynamic and productive with the bats. On paper, LA ranks as the highest-scoring team while also possessing the top slugging and on-base percentage in the league. Oftentimes, all it takes is one mistake pitch from opposing pitchers and the rest is history. At any given time, Los Angeles can inflict some serious damage at the plate and if they get going in this one, they won't be stopped.

Be on the lookout for the surprising resurgence of outfielder Teoscar Hernandez as he leads the club with 11 home runs and 33 runs batted in.

Why The Giants Will Cover The Spread/Win

Meanwhile, the Giants have won two of their last three games, but finding creative ways to one-up the Dodgers throughout this epic showdown will need to be a recipe for success en route to giving the home fans something to cheer about.

Despite not being very aggressive on the base paths, the Giants may need to make a living on threatening the Dodgers with the art of swiping some bags. Overall, San Francisco is not especially known for their offense as they rank 22nd in runs scored on the young season, so whenever they are able to reach base, putting the pressure on LA to keep San Fran at bay without stealing may be needed. Obviously, this is going to be out of the Giants' comfort zone, but slaying the Dodgers will require San Francisco to do some things out of character if they are seeking a victory.

In the midst of a heartbreaking injury to rookie standout Jung Ho Lee, the Giants offense MUST provide run support for Logan Webb and the rest of the San Francisco arms. Indeed, Webb has the talent to keep the dangerous Dodgers offense on their toes, but it will prove to be all for not if the Giants continue to come away empty at the plate. In general, San Francisco has to make some noise on the scoreboard in the early frames to put pressure on LA.

Final Dodgers-Giants Prediction & Pick

Throughout the years, this rivalry has provided plenty of entertainment to baseball fans galore. However, the Dodgers are on a whole other planet than the Giants right now. Even though anything can happen in one game, it would be smart to take Los Angeles to win big.
