J Balvin, or the “Prince of Reggaeton,” has risen to prominence as one of the biggest global stars in all of music. The Colombian reggaeton artist has had a close relationship with Jordan Brand over the last few years and the duo made history in 2020 with the release of his first Air Jordan 1 collaboration, titled “Colores Y Vibras.” Shortly following the hyped release, J Balvin came back with his own take on the growingly popular Air Jordan 2.

In 2023, Balvin released an extremely popular Air Jordan 3 “Medellin Sunset” that payed homage to the striking dawn sky in his home country of Colombia. His newest release will take the same form of the Air Jordan 3 and will pay homage to his son, Rio, who was born in 2021.

The J Balvin x Air Jordan 3 “Rio” comes as a follow-up to his first Jordan 3 model and features a similar color scheme to the initial release. The sunset gradients along the back heel are the same from the “Medellin Sunset” pair, but the entire shoe is done in a flat black base. The iconic elephant print is done in double-black and the heel tabs feature J Balvin's Nike logo along the right shoe over orange-to-yellow shift in color.

The final feature of the shoes is a bright hombre of yellow and orange along the outsole, providing another nice contrast and pop of color to accent the black base. The sockliner is also orange and if these are on-par with previous release, we should see some special packaging to go along with these.

The J Balvin x Air Jordan 3 “Rio” is set to release on May 22, 2024 for a retail tag of $220, making these a premium and rather exclusive release for Jordan Brand. The shoes will drop on Nike SNKRS app and should sell-out within minutes, so be sure to stay updated and snag your pair on release day. Resell value for this upcoming pair has already seen upwards of $400 on aftermarket websites.

What do you think of this upcoming J Balvin collaboration? Is this the best pair he's released so far?
