The Houston Texans have been in complete turmoil this offseason, and before the 2021 NFL draft. It all began with Deshaun Watson demanding a trade and refusing to play, which then led to the sexual assault accusations against the star quarterback.

The Texans had no draft picks in the first two rounds and very little cap space to work with.

It's been a complete nightmare the last few years for the Texans. While Bill O'Brien was still the head coach and general manager, he dished away a load of draft picks for Laremy Tunsil. He followed that up by running Jadeveon Clowney out of town and trading DeAndre Hopkins to the Arizona Cardinals. JJ Watt eventually left the organization too, joining Hopkins in the Arizona sun.

The roster is depleted, the quarterback is facing criminal charges, and the front office is backed up against the cap limit. The franchise has dug itself into a hole that it must now climbed out of.

Although they only had five selections in the 2021 NFL Draft, the front office was able to make some nice picks for the Texans. They snagged Nico Collins in the third round of the draft, who is a big-bodied receiver with a ton of potential. The team also acquired Brevin Jordan in the fifth round, who many believed was a top 3 tight end in the draft this year.

Additionally, with Houston's first pick, they decided to hedge their bets and select Davis Mills, a rookie quarterback. With the uncertainty around Watson, the Texans have done everything they can to find an insurance plan in case he misses time.

Although each of those picks were smart, the Houston Texans made one big mistake that could be fatal to the team. The team was bad last year, but Houston is shaping up to be at the bottom of the barrel for the second consecutive year in a row. This team needs a facelift, and quick.

With that said, here is the big mistake the Texans made in the 2021 NFL Draft.

Texans NFL draft mistake:

They didn't draft a single offensive lineman

The Houston Texans gave up 50 total sacks last year, which tied them for 2nd most in the NFL. This was a point of concern that frustrated Deshaun Watson, as he was running for his life on nearly every passing play. Although it's up in the air whether or not Watson plays next year, it's still a bad look to completely ignore the weakest part of the offense in the draft.

Davis Mills was a smart insurance pick, however, was he the right one? There were plenty of talented offensive linemen available in the third round that Houston could have selected. Instead, they panicked about Watson's situation and drafted a rookie quarterback who might never see the field.

Prepare for opposing defenses to have field days when they play the Texans.

With a weak offensive line, a less than stellar wide receiver group, an aging running back core, and a questionable quarterback situation, it's looking like it'll be a long season for the Houston Texans. Had they drafted an offensive lineman at all, they'd at least have a piece to develop during this season, with the hope of him earning more playing time in the future. Instead, Houston will make do with what they have.
