NFL teams around the league such as the Denver Broncos have signed undrafted free agents (UDFAs) to create some competition within their roster. It's a smart way to increase the level of play for a team, while there is also the possibility of finding a hidden gem. We see it almost every year, an Undrafted Free Agent makes the final roster and makes an impact on the team.

Whether that impact is big or small, really depends on the roster. The Broncos know this. Last season we witnessed James Robinson come out of nowhere and play like an elite running back for the Jacksonville Jaguars. That level of production is rare, but not impossible.

For the Broncos, don't expect anyone to jump off the page as Robinson did for the Jaguars. Denver's roster is rather stout throughout, with a question mark hanging above the quarterback position. It'll be tough for any of the UDFA's to earn any serious playing time, but at least one has a good shot at making the final roster.

The Broncos front office signed 11 UDFAs this offseason, bringing in a healthy amount of young talent to try out for the team. There will be some great position battles, as the Broncos will be setting up the best roster possible for the 2021 season. Of the 11 UDFAs, one stands out amongst the rest, as he is in a good position to earn a backup role this year.

Broncos OT Drew Himmelman

Denver has improved their offensive line, but they could always use more depth. According to ESPN, the current starting offensive line consists of Garett Bolles, Dalton Risner, Lloyd Cushenberry III, Graham Glasgow, and Bobby Massie. Himmelman is currently listed as the third left tackle on the depth chart.

A spot on the final roster is not a guarantee for Himmelman, as he's going to have to earn his place in the NFL. Coming out of Illinois State, Himmelman played left tackle for the Redbirds. During his collegiate career, Himmelman earned first-team FCS All America Honors in 2019, per USA Today.

Himmelman is a large prospect. His big-bodied frame gives him a huge advantage on the offensive line. At 6-10, 325 pounds, it'll be difficult for pass rushers to get past him. He has a slow step and struggles against speedy defenders, which is something he'll need to adjust at the professional level.

Although his experience is at the left tackle position, it seems like Denver views him more as a swing tackle. If that's the case, Himmelman's chances of making the final roster improves drastically. His main competition in camp will be Cameron Fleming, Bobby Messie, and Calvin Anderson. If Himmelman can prove his worth on both ends of the offensive line, the Broncos could reward him with a spot on the roster.

Having depth at the offensive line is always a good thing. Especially for Denver right now as they are trying to figure out the quarterback position. Whether it's Drew Lock or Teddy Bridgewater, the Broncos will want the best pass protection possible. Drew Himmelman has the size and experience to provide the depth Denver needs on the offensive line.
