The Arizona Cardinals were one of the hottest teams in the league last year but fell short in the playoffs. They hope to get back to form and make a deeper run in the postseason this time around. Arizona has a solid team to work with, as they're stacked on both sides of the ball. Regardless, the rookie class must provide a boost if this franchise hopes to make some noise in the upcoming season. For that reason, we look at one undrafted free agent who will make the Cardinals' 2022 roster.

It'll be interesting to see how Arizona handles itself to begin the season. With DeAndre Hopkins suspended for the first six games, the Cardinals could find themselves in trouble without their superstar receiver. However, considering they run an air-raid offense, Kyler Murray is likely to throw the ball downfield anyway. This creates an opportunity for an undrafted free agent to make an impact on this roster.

We should see this offense remain as one of the best in the league in 2022. With Hopkins not available for the first six games, an opportunity arises for someone to step up in the wide receiver room. If this undrafted free agent can put together a strong camp, he should have himself a spot on the team for the upcoming season.

With that said, here is our one undrafted free agent to make the Cardinals' 2022 roster.

Cardinals Undrafted Free Agent To Make 2022 Roster

JaVonta Payton

Coming out of the University of Tennessee, JaVonta Payton aims to turn some heads throughout the summer. The Cardinals could use an extra boost at wide receiver and Payton could be the perfect man for the job. He'd likely be a rotational player that helps on special teams, but the depth is important for Arizona right now.

After transferring to Tennessee, Payton proved to be a reliable pass option in the final year of his collegiate career. In 2021, the Cardinals' undrafted free agent recorded 18 receptions, 413 receiving yards, and six touchdowns. His 22.9 yards per catch average made him one of the best big-play receivers in the nation. Although JaVonta Payton has a limited stat line, his efficiency is hard to ignore.

That's the exact type of receiver the Cardinals need right now. Especially with DeAndre Hopkins ruled out for the first six games. Payton has a chance to earn a sporadic role in the offense as a big-play threat. He can help open up the field a bit in certain situations while serving as a nice backup option for AJ Green. His playtime will likely take a hit once Hopkins returns, but regardless, all eyes should be on JaVonta Payton throughout training camp.

He'll have his work cut out for him though. The Cardinals signed four other receivers as undrafted free agents. They'll each be competing for a spot on the final roster which makes for an intriguing camp battle. Additionally, Arizona already has four receivers who are likely guaranteed to make the final team. That leaves one, maybe two spots up for the taking.

Keep an eye on JaVonta Payton, as he should be viewed as the favorite amongst the undrafted free agents to make the Cardinals' 2022 roster. He's still a long shot, but Arizona might love what they see out of this kid in the summer. Who knows? Perhaps Payton can prove to be a hidden gem for the upcoming season as well.
