The Los Angeles Chargers showed potential throughout the 2020 season but finished 7-9. Rookie quarterback Justin Herbert proved that he could be a franchise quarterback for many years. Herbert was a star in year one and could take an even bigger jump in year two.
In the off-season, the Chargers improved the roster which makes them a threat to other teams in the future. In free agency, they were able to bolster the offensive line to protect Herbert better. They did this by bringing in Pro Bowl center Corey Linsley. Linsley will instantly elevate the play of the offensive line and help the Chargers improve as a team. They also added to the offensive line in the draft as they took OT Rashawn Slater in the first round. Slater was the best day one tackle in the draft and will make a quick impact.
The Chargers are primed to improve and make a run at the playoffs this season. They had a great draft and free agency which has put the roster in position to be contenders.
The Chargers also added an undrafted free agent that has a great shot at making the 2021 roster.
Linebacker Amen Ogbongbemiga
Amen Ogbongbemiga is a linebacker from Oklahoma State who could instantly impact the special teams unit. Ogbongbemiga is a great tackler with impressive size. Although that may not sound be a household name, special teams players are very valuable in the league. A bad special teams can be the difference in winning games and Ogbongbemiga would fit well for the Chargers in that role.
The Chargers had a horrible special teams unit in the 2020 season. They were ranked 30th in the NFL which will not cut it for a team trying to make the playoffs. Ogbongbemiga would be great in kick and punt return coverage for the team and help improve LA in that specific area.
He also has the potential to develop into a backup linebacker for the Chargers. Ogbongbemiga could even become a second LB within a few years if the Chargers develop him well.
Look for Ogbongbemiga to make the roster and make an impact on the team in year one.
The Chargers are bound to make a run at a playoff spot this year. They will have to go through a somewhat tough division to do so. One of the best teams in the world in the Kansas City Chiefs are in the division along with the Las Vegas Raiders and the Denver Broncos. It will be tough to make the playoffs but the Chargers have put themselves in position to make a run. They have put the talent together it will come down to how the team can coalesce.
Herbert will be key in taking this team to the playoffs. While he had a phenomenal rookie season he will need to take his game up another notch for the team to make a run at the playoffs.
The Chargers look ready to make a run at the postseason and could be a threat to opposing teams this season.
