The Philadelphia Eagles recently ended their 2020 season with a 4-11-1 record to finish dead last in the NFC East. In the offseason, the Eagles finally began their full rebuild by moving on from former starting quarterback Carson Wentz and promoting Jalen Hurts to be the new QB1.

Philadelphia then nabbed Hurts' former Alabama teammate in Heisman Trophy winning-wide receiver DeVonta Smith with the 10th overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. General manager Howie Roseman still wasn't satisfied as the Eagles went on to sign a total of seven undrafted free agents, primarily composed of players on the offensive end.

One of them is Florida wide receiver Trevon Grimes who could have the most realistic shot at making the final roster among all the talents on that list. He previously played his freshman year in college with the Ohio State Buckeyes back in 2017 but the limited action that he saw on the field forced him to transfer to Florida where he would play for the Gators from 2018 to 2020.

In his senior campaign, Grimes notched a total of 589 receiving yards on 38 receptions and nine touchdowns through 11 games played. His numbers in the collegiate ranks were quite underwhelming but his potential remains to be intriguing for some, which is probably one of the reasons why Philadelphia still gave him a second look and signed him as an undrafted free agent.

Nevertheless, the Eagles can have a physical receiver who can catch long passes above defensive backs, if they decide to include him in their Week 1 roster. In fact, his athleticism was on display during the Gators' Pro Day when he ran a 4.50 in the 40-yard dash as a 6'4, 220-pound prospect.

Based on the team's current wide receiver room, there is still room for the Eagles to add Grimes to their depth chart. Former veteran WR DeSean Jackson has already relocated to his hometown Los Angeles Rams while another pass-catcher in Alshon Jeffery remains to be a free agent in the offseason.

As of the moment, Smith, Jalen Reagor, Greg Ward, and Travis Fulgham currently headline the team's receiving corps. Grimes will be competing alongside J.J. Arcega-Whiteside, Quez Watkins, John Hightower, Khalil Tate and Jhamon Ausbon to land a role with the team in training camp.

Despite his good chances, there have been reports that he recently underwent a knee procedure to treat a resurfacing injury. Although the setback could keep him on the shelf for quite some time, it was revealed that it is not serious in nature and Grimes can still land a roster spot with the Eagles before the season.

Unknown to many, the Eagles' new quarterbacks coach in Brian Johnson was also Grimes' offensive coordinator with the Gators last season. The familiarity that the two have may potentially play a role in Grimes' inclusion in the team's roster.

Given the underwhelming performance of the Eagles' offensive unit last season, the team's decision-makers would be wise to add an extra body in Grimes who can potentially develop as a threat once he is given enough chances to prove himself. It would also be better for them to give their new QB1 more targets on the field in order to give him flexibility as much as possible.

If Trevon Grimes successfully lands a roster spot, the Eagles are hoping that he can be value-adding for a team that is in dire need of players who can step up on the field, given that he can stay healthy and perform well moving forward.
