The Carolina Panthers are in a prime position to improve in the 2021 season. They are coming off a 5-11 season, which is disappointing, but the roster looks ready to compete now. While the Panthers may not be thought of as a good team they have a really solid roster.
In free agency and the draft the Panthers roster improved even more. The biggest acquisition for the Panthers was when they traded for quarterback Sam Darnold.
Darnold struggled when he was on the New York Jets but he didn't have much talent around him. He still has a ton of potential and he will finally have good talent around him on offense. Darnold may breakout as a player in his new opportunity with the Panthers.
Notable free agency additions for the Panthers included cornerback A.J. Bouye, linebacker Denzel Perryman, and edge rusher Hasson Reddick.
These signings will definitely improve the defensive unit and will help the Panthers get back to contention.
The Panthers also made some good moves in the draft.
With the 8th pick in the first round the Panthers selected cornerback Jaycee Horn.
Horn projects to be the best day one cornerback in the draft and could be a star on defense for the Panthers. The second round pick of wide receiver Terrace Marshall Jr. and the third round pick of offensive tackle Brady Christensen should revitalize the offense.
This Panthers team is set up for success this season after a good offseason.
The Panthers also made a signing of an undrafted player who has a great shot of making the playoffs.
Panthers Linebacker Paddy Fisher
Although many people think undrafted players can't make an impact some of them make the roster and have an impact. Paddy Fisher is a player that has a great shot to do that for the Panthers.
He is a linebacker which is a somewhat weak position for Carolina. With that being said he still has some parts of his game that he could work on.
Fisher needs to improve at covering a player in man coverage for on extended plays. He doesn't have the same definition of most NFL linebackers but he has some promise. Fisher is great at attacking the catch point of receivers to force incompletions. While he may not be a perfect linebacker prospect he has a lot of skills you want in a player. Fisher is a good tackler along with an ability to force fumbles.
Although Fisher is not the typical linebacker he can limit the angles of the runners. He is also able to burst through run lanes before the blockers can get to him. This allows him to have a big impact in the run game and it is a big part of Fisher's game.
Look for Fisher to make the roster at linebacker despite being an undrafted free agent.
The Panthers are in a tough division as it includes the defending Super Bowl champion Tampa Bay Buccaneers. This division also includes the New Orleans Saints and the Atlanta Falcons. Although the Panthers may not be seen as a competitive team they have the talent to compete.
With a young up and coming roster the Panthers are ready for anything they may face.
Look for Carolina to be competitive this season and make a run at a playoff berth.
