The Washington Football Team had a successful 2020 season. It returned to the NFL playoffs. Going into the season there was not much expectation for the Football Team but they won the NFC East. It was shown throughout the 2020 campaign how dominant the defense is and it can improve even more.
The defense for Washington is very young and the players could breakout even more. Chase Young is at the head of the young defense as he dominated in his rookie season and won the Defensive Rookie of the Year award. The team looks ready to compete and they added players in the off-season to improve the team even more.
In the off-season the Washington Football Team improved the roster through free agency and the draft. The big signings for the Football team were cornerback William Jackson, wide receiver Curtis Samuel and quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick. These additions could all make big impacts on the Football Team's play in 2021.
In the draft the Football Team made some good picks. With the 17th pick in the first round the Football Team selected linebacker Jamin Davis. Davis will improve the young talent of the defense and make a big impact in year one. In the second round they selected offensive Samuel Cosmi who will instantly elevate the play of the offensive line. With a good draft and free agency the Washington Football Team looks ready to make another run at the division.
The Football Team also signed a undrafted free agent who has a great shot at making the Washington roster.
Washington running back Jaret Patterson
Jaret Patterson is entering the NFL as a solid running back but hasn't seen top tier competition. In college Patterson wasn't in a big conference which is what impacted his draft stock. Although he didn't go to a big school, Patterson showed his great running ability and has a good shot at making the roster.
Patterson is known for a crazy game last season where he had 36 carries for 409 yards and 8 touchdowns. He has shown big play ability and could be a great backup running back for the future. The Football Team has Antonio Gibson on the roster as the starter and J.D. McKissic as the receiving back. Although Patterson may not play a ton in his rookie season he could become a backup soon.
While he is very undersized Paterson could make a big impact for the team in the future. His work ethic is what draws a lot of attention as he has proven to be a very hard worker. Patterson is also a reliable ball carrier as he rarely fumbles the ball.
Another strength of Patterson's game is his above average run blocking. Although he is only 5'6 he can block relatively well. Patterson may not be the ideal build of a running back but he has all the tools to be successful.
Look for Patterson to make the roster for the Football Team in the 2021 season.
The Football team is set up to do well again this season. They are in a somewhat weak division in the NFC East but there will still be some competition. The Dallas Cowboys, Philadelphia Eagles, and New York Giants all seemed to improve in the draft which will be a test for the Football Team.
While it will be a tough road back to the playoffs the Football Team has the talent to make it back.
