The NFL season is about to begin and the Indianapolis Colts aim for another playoff appearance. This franchise has been hit with the injury bug recently, but Indianapolis is still hopeful they can make the postseason. They play in a top-heavy AFC South division and will need the best roster moving forward.

To do that, we could see some young prospects make a jump on the depth chart before the regular season officially kicks off. The Colts' defense is sturdy and will likely remain the same. However, there are a couple of veterans on the offense who could lose playing time as the year progresses.

The Colts have a questionable receiving core. It's a young group for the most part, but there aren't many proven talents. With TY Hilton aging, we could see a young prospect take advantage and earn a more prominent role. The same could be said about the tight end group, as the position doesn't have any outstanding athletes available. With that said, here are two Colts' first-stringers in danger of losing their starting jobs.

Colts first-stringers to watch

TY Hilton

TY Hilton is a long-time veteran wide receiver and fan favorite. He's been a solid wideout throughout his career, serving as a consistent passing option and deep threat. However, Hilton is getting up there in age and clearly lost a step last year. The Colts have a plethora of young talent in the wide receiver position. With Hilton suffering from a neck injury, this is a huge opportunity for a prospect to earn a more prominent role.

Two receivers stand out the most on the Colts roster. Parris Campbell is a talented athlete who has struggled with injuries throughout his career so far. If he stays healthy, Campbell has the potential to be the top passing option on this team. Meanwhile, Mike Strachan is a late-round pick who's been consistent throughout training camp and the preseason. He has the potential to be a solid red-zone target in the 2021 season.

We'll see how it plays out, as the Colts should be a run-first offense this year. Keep an eye on TY Hilton and the rest of the receiver room, as a new favorite target could emerge with Carson Wentz under center. If the Colts hope to make another playoff appearance, they'll need someone to step up in the receiver room.

Jack Doyle

Jack Doyle enters his ninth season with the Indianapolis Colts. He's a great blocking tight end who hasn't been much of a receiving threat for most of his career. Doyle will see plenty of playing time, but the Colts' coaching staff must consider someone else to boost the passing game.

With the state the receiver group is in, someone must step up as a security blanket for Wentz. We've seen Jack Doyle play that role before, but he's not a prominent threat to opposing defenses. Instead, Indianapolis should look towards Mo Alie-Cox or Kylen Granson

Ali-Cox is an athletic tight end who has steadily improved throughout the course of his career. Now could be the time he officially takes over as the top tight end for the Colts. Meanwhile, Granson is a rookie with a ton of potential. He likely needs time to develop but could earn more playing time if he performs well. Keep an eye on the tight end group in Indianapolis, as a new starter could be taking over for the Colts.
